MCP tool

Live
tasks.get

Exposed on: REST API · Shop MCP server · Claude connector · Dash (in-app copilot) · Zapier. Part of the Tasks domain.

Operating contract

One task's full record, including every anchor it carries: the conversation it belongs to, the customer it is about, the job it hangs off, and the exact message it was created from.

THE ANCHORS ARE THE POINT. A to-do that says 'call them back about the price' is useless on its own and complete with a thread id — comms.list_messages on conversation is what the customer actually asked, and message_id through comms.get_message is the sentence that caused the task. Read them before acting on a task whose title is short.

overdue is computed against now rather than stored, so it is current at the moment you read it. completed_at is stamped when the task was finished and cleared when it is reopened, so a re-completed task always reports the real finish rather than the first one's.

A task belonging to another shop, or one that has been removed, is simply not found — the same answer either way.

Who may call it

Permission
inbox.accessThe caller must hold Inbox at the ACT level. A read-only dashboard grant on the same section is refused.
Plan
Every planNo plan gate. Available on every Service VIN plan.
Retries
naturalNaturally idempotent — running it twice leaves the same world as running it once. A retrying integration needs no key.
Rate class
readCounted against the read budget — the widest of the four.

Examples

Built from this capability's own schema — required fields and the ones carrying a default, and nothing invented. Paste one and it validates.

Refusals

The four gates run in this order on every surface, and the order is not arbitrary — see Authentication.

StatusCodeWhen
404not_foundThe id is unknown, or the feature is not enabled for this account. Deliberately the same answer for both.
403forbiddenThis login does not hold inbox.access.
422validation_errorAn argument was wrong. The message names the field.
429rate_limitedToo many read calls. Back off and retry.
500internal_errorSomething failed on our side. Nothing was changed.
