What it won't do

It won't count a cut nobody logged
Stock, COGS and waste all come out of the consumption ledger, and the ledger only knows what your team logs. The numbers are as good as the habit — which is why logging a draw-down is a couple of taps from the roll page and not a form.
It won't block a quote you're short on
A line that needs more film than you have warns you while you're still typing — how short, and on what. It is a warning, not a lock: you can quote it anyway and receive a roll before the install.
It won't invent a cost you never entered
Valuation and margin are computed from the acquisition cost on the roll you actually bought. A roll received without its real cost is a roll the math can't speak for.
It won't let you rewrite history
The consumption ledger is append-only. A mis-logged cut is corrected with another entry that says who fixed it and when — nothing quietly disappears from the record.

What is inventory management for wrap shops?

How does it improve profitability?
Three ways. Quotes are costed from the actual roll cost, so you stop underpricing without noticing. Every job carries its real material COGS, so you can see which work makes money. And waste is measured — logged with a reason and reported as a share of your 30-day spend — so the leak you couldn't see becomes a number you can push down.
Does it connect to quoting and jobs?
It's the same system, not an integration. The quote builder shows feet on hand for every film SKU and warns you when a line needs more than you've got. Logged draw-downs attribute to a job, and the job page shows its materials and total material cost next to everything else about the job.
What happens to offcuts and waste?
You choose when you log the cut. "Waste" records the feet and cost against your waste numbers. "Remnant cut" takes the offcut off the roll and shelves it as reusable stock — same SKU, same real cost per foot — so your team checks the remnant shelf before opening a fresh roll.
Do I need barcode scanners or special hardware?
No. Receiving a roll is a short form — product, length, cost, lot, location — and logging usage is a couple of taps from the roll page. Roll codes are optional labels, not a hardware requirement. If your phone can open a web page, you're equipped.
What about damaged rolls or warranty claims?
Quarantine the roll. It keeps its history but stops counting as available stock, so nobody quotes or cuts against it. And because every roll stores its vendor, lot number and acquisition cost, the paperwork for a claim is already in one place.
