What is Plotter / pre-cut pattern?

Definition

Plotter / pre-cut pattern is a computer-driven cutter that cuts PPF or tint to a vehicle-specific pattern from a software library, instead of bulk hand-cutting on the car. It speeds installs and reduces waste, though every job still leaves some offcut.

Also called Pre-cut pattern.

Why it matters to a shop

A pattern trades material waste for software cost and cutting time, and which way that trade lands depends on the vehicle and the job. Tracking real per-job film consumption is the only way to know whether plotting or bulk hand-cutting is actually cheaper in your shop.
