What is Hydrophobic?

Definition

HydrophobicWater-repelling. A hydrophobic surface makes water bead up and sheet off, carrying dirt with it. It's the headline property of ceramic coatings and many PPF topcoats, and the reason a coated car looks cleaner between washes.

Why it matters to a shop

It is the property customers actually see and judge you on, and the reason maintenance plans sell. Setting the expectation honestly — easier cleaning, not a self-cleaning car — is what keeps a delighted customer from becoming a warranty call.
