What is Paint protection film (PPF)?

Definition

Paint protection film (PPF) is a clear (or coloured) thermoplastic urethane film applied over a vehicle's paint to absorb rock chips, scratches and road debris. Also called a clear bra. Sold and installed by the linear foot off a roll, usually 60 inches wide.

Also called Clear bra.

Why it matters to a shop

PPF is the highest-material-cost work most appearance shops sell, and it is bought by the roll and consumed by the linear foot. If your software prices it off a wall menu instead of the roll on your rack, you can run a full week of front-ends and still not know which of them paid.
