What is Vinyl wrap?

Definition

Vinyl wrap is an adhesive-backed vinyl film applied to change a vehicle's colour or finish (gloss, matte, satin, chrome, colour-shift) or to carry commercial graphics. Reversible, unlike paint. Cast vinyl conforms to curves; calendered vinyl is cheaper but flatter.

Why it matters to a shop

A wrap ties up a bay for days and consumes material by the foot, so it is the job where a guessed material cost hurts most. Cast versus calendered is also a real quoting distinction: the cheaper vinyl is not the cheaper job once it fails on a curve.
