What is TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane)?

Definition

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is the material modern PPF is made from. TPU is elastic, clear and abrasion-resistant, which is why it can be stretched over curves and (with the right topcoat) self-heal. It largely replaced older, more brittle PVC films.

Also called Thermoplastic polyurethane.

Why it matters to a shop

Film tier is a pricing lever, and TPU is the reason the good tiers cost what they do. Knowing the material lets you explain the price gap between films in a sentence instead of discounting to end the conversation.
