What is VLT (visible light transmission)?

Definition

VLT (visible light transmission) is the percentage of visible light a tint lets through the glass. A lower VLT is darker (5% is very dark 'limo'; 70% is very light). Legal VLT limits vary by jurisdiction and by window, so always verify the local law before quoting.

Also called Visible light transmission.

Why it matters to a shop

VLT is the number customers ask for and the number the law cares about, so it belongs on the quote, the job and the invoice. Recording it against the vehicle protects the shop if the car is ever pulled over or the customer's memory of what they picked changes.
